How to use plants to decorate your home.

Bringing the outdoors in has been a popular trend over the past few years. In fact, in 2017 ‘greenery’ was Pantone’s colour of the year. This trend doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. This means finding stylish ways to decorate your home with plants has never been more popular.   Decorating with house plants can bring a whole new lease of life into your home, instantly injecting an uplifting and fresh feeling into a room. No matter what your current décor, adding some greenery can change the whole feel and perception of a room. And, if you find some great decorative planters, they can become a focal design point too!   So, how can you decorate with house plants? We’ve got some simple tips to help you master the art of using plants to revamp your home!
  • Find interesting planters

Decorating with house plants doesn’t mean picking up some tulips and sticking them in a vase (although that would look lovely!). Planters come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes it’s the pot or planter that adds the most interesting element to the room. Hanging planters are great for smaller rooms as they don’t take up precious space. The small Macrame Plant Hanger  is hung with thick jute rope. It instantly catches the eye when you walk into a room. Bowled planters are also a beautiful way to feature your house plants – we love this cotton rope planter from Ruby Cubes.

  • Make the most of supermarket flowers

Although they don’t last long, you can pick up a bunch of flowers from the supermarket for a reasonable price. The beautiful colours can brighten a dull space and are great to decorate with when you’re hosting guests. Rather than showcasing the bunch in one vase, separating the flowers into smaller bunches allows you to spread them further. The Little Pink Vase by Pippi and Me will hold a single stem and look beautifully simple and elegant.

  • Buy plants that don’t take much care

We all know a serial plant killer. You might even be one of them. But all is not lost! There is a huge range of plants on the market that need little care - you could even say they are impossible to kill. Look out for the spider plant, aloe, calathea, jade plant, and mother-in-law’s tongue, to name but a few. These sturdy plants will look great in a range of pots and planters.
  • Interesting terrariums

Terrariums act as great mini green houses for your succulents. What’s more, they’re super easy to create. This mini Geometric Pot by August Glass Designs would look great perched on a side table to showcase your cacti. Succulents are also extremely easy to care for and only require watering once every 1-2 weeks!
